Being at the beach has me mentally in summer, but we can’t deny that fall is here. With NYFW happening now (so many good shows!), school back in session and October only 17 days away, excuse me, WHAT?? We better start pulling out our jackets and boots. So let’s recap the week: fall fashion do’s and don’ts, a new series, and more fun below.

This Week in Review
I’m A Cool Mom
Started off the week with a carousel full of fall trend inspirations. These are great to save and reference later when you’re getting dressed or shopping to fill in your fall wardrobe. I think it’s easy to name the trends of the season, but it can be a bit more challenging actually trying to wear them and build an outfit. These images are a great starting point, plus I curated fall shopping lists on my LTK and ShopMy.
Please Don’t
A short and sweet video on some hot takes for fall. A lot of my posts are rooted in real trend data and cultural references, but these below are just my personal opinions on what not to wear for fall. I thought number three would offend more people, but overall I think we’re getting somewhere with it!
My main point is to just get you inspired and breaking out of the box, pushing yourself a little bit with your fashion. With the current state of Instagram and social media in general, we are constantly inundated with everyone looking the same and buying the same thing. And that’s boring. I want to see YOU!
Let’s Fix It
You don’t need a whole new closet full of clothes or to throw out the entire outfit, but sometimes small updates in accessories or silhouettes can make the look feel more current. We covered some easy swaps for your fall looks if you’re looking for a refresh. This fall is all about more relaxed silhouettes, cozy printed knits, and bold accessories.
The Art of the Unexpected
I’m really excited to create this new series, where I am sharing more about me, my path that has led me here, and building The Colorist. Think of it like the Cliff Notes of my life up until this point, what has influenced me, and where I’m going. And all the sh*t that happens in between while I’m trying to figure it out.
This account has grown so quickly over the last 9ish months, which has been so amazing and extremely unexpected. Now I want to focus on depth and building out the community connection. It seems that most of my audience comes for the value and fashion education content, but doesn’t seem to actually know me. So let’s change that!
With this series I’m hoping to blend more lifestyle, behind-the-scenes, vulnerable type stuff, combined with the heart of what built this account. I have a lot to say and share and I’m figuring it out as I go. And in my opinion, that is always where the magic happens.
Work, Work, Work
New season, new office wardrobe for the cool dads. Again, it’s not about throwing everything out, but simple swaps can make a big difference. I think for men, since fashion isn’t (usually) a main focal point or priority, it can be harder to make shifts to the wardrobe or take risks and try something new. And we’ve been stuck in the slim pants era for a long time, so it’s time to just loosen everything up a bit and make some tweaks to the overall silhouette.
And then a carousel to go with it. Super easy to save and reference. And to send to your husband ;)
Someone Has to Hold It Down
This is my favorite series to do. I get to be my own creative director, come up with hilarious but equally fashionable ideas to showcase that you can still be a parent and care about your outfit.
I feel like there are two camps on Instagram: either leaning into the mom life with the athleisure and matching sets or the very glammed-up, dressed-up side, but not too much in between. I love getting dressed up as much as the next person, but most of the time it’s figuring out how to build practical, affordable, yet fashionable looks.
Dressing intentionally doesn’t have to mean full glam or an expensive look, but it does mean choosing details that feel like you, that work for your life and express your personality. We can’t all be living out NYFW, right? (That would be a dream come true though, if any brands are reading this <3)
What’s Been Catching My Eye (In No Particular Order)
These Freja Glove flats in white!! I have been recommending them for a while, but finally got my hands on them. They’re so comfortable and I love how they feel a little more modern than a classic ballet flat. Plus Madewell is having their Insider sale on 9/15 for 25% sitewide, so be sure to sign up.
I have a vintage concho belt from my mom that she got years ago in Santa Fe. It’s always been one of my favorite things, and now it’s a big trend for fall. I’ve linked a few similar options here, here, here, and here.
I’m very into the Western Americana vibes this fall, and being from Arizona (wild wild west), I always love a cowgirl nod, so I’ve been loving anything fringed and studded. Some of these are wishlist items, but a girl can dream, right? Studded jacket here and here. Fringe jacket here and here.
