What I Wish I Was Wearing
Wanted: Seeing Red
Alright, we’re back with our second post. This time I’m sharing what I wish I was wearing, some pieces I’ve been eyeing and have sitting on my wish list.
As a toddler mom of two who’s also working part-time in a factory pouring candles, I’m slowly trying to rebuild a wardrobe that actually fits this new season of life. I still haven’t lost all the baby weight, and it is HOT HOT summer here in Arizona, so there are lots of extra elements to factor in.
As I reflect on how I want to express myself and this evolving identity through what I wear, I can’t help but start with shoes. I really think shoes make or break an outfit. They either pull everything together or totally ruin it. They’re also a great foundation for any wardrobe because no matter your size or stage of life, they can carry you through, especially if you invest in quality.
That said, I’m still not quite ready to splurge on anything too pricey. I'm firmly in my mid-tier era.
So let’s jump in. I’ve been obsessed with all things red lately. I mean, who hasn’t? It’s the perfect summer “neutral” that adds a punch to pretty much anything. With the 4th of July around the corner, and Labor Day not far behind, I think red shoes are festive and chic.
Here are a few of my top picks.
These red flatform slides from Free People. A bold pop and an easy wear. I love the idea of adding a little height without sacrificing comfort. The flatform makes them feel sporty and cool, but the color keeps it fun and fresh. These are the kind of slides that would make even a white tee and jeans feel styled.
I love this sporty take on the mesh flats from Mango, its like an elevated water shoe you can throw on with linen pants, a slip dress, or a suit and still look like you tried. They’re lightweight but polished, and the color? So chic.
I know, another Miu Miu dupe. But I couldn’t resist the unexpected pop of color and the texture the rope adds to a classic silhouette. I spotted these at Target, and for only $20, how could you not give them a try? Sometimes it’s fun to experiment without the pressure.
No red shoe list would be complete without a jelly flat. I first noticed The Row’s version last summer from their pre-fall collection and kind of regret not jumping on the trend then. I still can’t get the style out of my head, or maybe I’m just seeing them everywhere now, so it’s top of mind. These from Gap look comfy and come in a more muted red, which I actually love as a low-key option.
Another summer 2025 staple: the thong flip-flop. Who knew they’d make such a strong comeback? I’ve been loving the translucent strap paired with a solid black sole. These jelly ones from Gap strike that balance of being chic yet totally practical for the heat.
These Tory Burch Mules caught my eye right away. The pierced detail is so unique, and I love the contrast of silver against that perfect shade of red. The narrow square toe feels modern and refined. I’m really into the mix of shapes, color, and function. The only question—is that inverted heel cushion actually comfortable? I can’t tell, but I’m intrigued.
If I had to pick just one from the list to purchase, it’d be these Viani Milano Flats. They feel special but still effortless. The shape, the fabric, the (removable!) ankle strap—it all adds up to an elevated, feminine touch without trying too hard. Love.
